The Summer Palace in Beijing.  Almost as much a “must-see” as the Forbidden City, the Summer Palace was a playground for the court and an escape from the summer heat.  It has a giant man-made lake, and multiple pavilions and courtyards.  It was sacked by foreign invaders, but for the most part has been rebuilt.
